The mission of the National Security Studies Program is to examine America’s most pressing strategic challenges using an innovative blend of open-source research and cross-cutting analysis to give policy makers and the public the insight, foresight and alternatives necessary to secure the national interest. A non-partisan effort, the National Security Studies Program recognizes that the great security challenges facing the United States in the first half of the 21st Century stem from the requirement to advance simultaneously the common defense and the general welfare.
Accordingly, the National Security Studies Program proceeds from the notion that in today’s global environment, it is essential for national security leaders to do three things: understand the people and the politics driving actions and reactions from Pakistan to Mexico, master complex geopolitical relationships, and generate a full spectrum of options for policymakers from the tactical to the strategic. To accomplish this, our work will range anywhere from investigating the inner workings of al-Qaeda, to exploring the outlines of a regional peace settlement in South Asia, to framing a sustainable national strategy for America's long term security and prosperity.
